ILLINOIS STATE POLICE PREPARE TO SAFELY IMPLEMENT THE CANNABIS REGULATION AND TAX ACT

The Illinois State Police today announced public safety, training, and enforcement efforts, as well as implementation of expungement and regulation requirements of the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. “Whether it’s misconduct regarding alcohol or cannabis, public safety and the enforcement of the law will always remain our top priorities,” stated ISP Acting Director Brendan F. Kelly. “As the laws of the state of Illinois change, the ISP will ensure our officers, forensic scientists, telecommunicators, and support staff have the necessary training and tools needed to continue to enforce the laws in place and perform their respective duties,” he concluded.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Avon, IL- On June 25, 2019, at approximately 1:58 p.m., Illinois State Police (ISP) officers responded to a residence in rural Avon, Illinois (Fulton County) to assist the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO). Four FCSO Deputies responded to a battery and disturbance call at the rural Avon residence. Shortly upon arrival, Fulton County Deputy Troy Chisum was shot by a suspect in the residence; Deputy Chisum succumbed to his injuries.

UPDATED STATEMENT REGARDING ONGOING INCIDENT IN AVON, IL

MESSAGE FROM FULTON COUNTY SHERIFF JEFF STANDARD Today, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy Troy Chisum, 39 years of age, responded to a battery and disturbance call in Avon, IL. During the incident, multiple shots were fired and Deputy Chisum was fatally injured as a result. Deputy Chisum was a four and a half year veteran of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. He was a paramedic with the Fulton County EMA, was a member of the West Central Special Response Team, and the ILEAS WMD/SRT Team, Region 6. “On behalf of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Chisum. ISP Reinstitutes “Fast Track” Program to recruit current certified Police Officers

The Illinois State Police (ISP) is reinstituting the “Fast Track” Program that provides an opportunity for certified police officers to become Illinois State Troopers through participation in an accelerated training program. The duration of a Fast Track Cadet Class will be slightly less than half of the standard 26-week Cadet Class.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ANNOUNCE AVAILABILITY OF FEDERAL FIREARM LICENSEES WEB PAGE

The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced today the availability of their web page for Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) to certify their licenses with the ISP, in compliance with a new state statute signed into law by Governor Pritzker on January 18, 2019. The Firearm Dealer License Certification Act requires, “Each licensee (to) file with the Department a copy of its license, together with a sworn affidavit indicating that the license presented is in fact its license and that the license is valid.”

HONORING FALLEN OFFICERS AT THE KENDALL COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CEREMONY

Illinois State Police (ISP), District 5 attended a “Celebration of Life” at the Kendall County Law Enforcement Memorial on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. This memorial ceremony was to honor fallen law enforcement officers from Kendall County as well as throughout the United States. This year, the Kendall County Association of Chiefs of Police added Illinois State Police, Zone 5 (Lockport) Special Agent Robert Kolowski to the memorial. Special Agent Kolowski started his career as an Illinois State Trooper on July 9, 1973, and served in Kendall County for approximately 20 years. Special Agent Kolowski died in service on February 25, 1993, from a cardiac emergency.

Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) Riders will host dedication ceremonies during their 1,200-mile bicycle journey from St. Louis, Missouri, to Washington, D.C. for National Police Week. Riders will honor Illinois State Police (ISP) Sergeant Rodney Miller and Trooper Brian McMillen along their Illinois route. On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the FLETC Riders will stop at the Illinois Police Officers Memorial in Springfield, Illinois, for a dedication for Trooper Brian McMillen. Trooper Brian McMillen tragically lost his life in the Line of Duty on October 28, 2007, when his squad car was struck by two impaired drivers while responding to “an officer needs assistance” call in Illiopolis.

Illinois State Police (ISP) officials would like to invite all individuals who are interested in becoming ISP Troopers to participate in a Physical Fitness Inventory Test (PFIT) Seminar being held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Olivet Nazarene University in the Student Recreation Center located at One University Drive, Bourbonnais, Illinois 60914. Certified PFIT monitors will be in attendance to provide hands-on instruction on how to successfully pass the ISP PFIT, as well as tips on how individuals can train and prepare for the test. Participation in the seminar does not fulfill the Mandatory PFIT Requirement to become an ISP Trooper.
