ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ANNOUNCE ARREST FOR  ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER

 

CHICAGO -- Illinois State Police (ISP) officials announce the arrest of Steven Gouveia (M/31) of Chicago, IL for Attempted First Degree Murder.

On May 22, 2019 at approximately 10:22 a.m., a District Chicago Trooper was on a traffic stop on the I-290 eastbound ramp to Damen Avenue, when he was almost struck by a vehicle that was traveling up the ramp. The Trooper ordered the driver to stop and pull over and the driver attempted to flee. A brief struggle ensued between the driver and the Trooper, as the Trooper was carried a short distance, before he was able to force the vehicle into park. The driver resisted arrest, but was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.

The Trooper sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local area hospital for treatment and released. The Trooper is a 12 year veteran of the Illinois State Police. 

The subject was identified as Steven Gouveia.  Gouveia was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Misdemeanor Possession of Cannabis, and was issued two citations for driving while license suspended and improper lane usage.

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, Gouveia attended a bond hearing and was ordered to be held in custody with no bond.

 

The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until the charges are proven in a court of law.
