The Bureau of Identification promotes public safety by collecting, maintaining, and disseminating accurate, timely, and complete criminal history information. Record relating to more than five million fingerprint files help ensure the identifications of individuals and potential suspects through the use of the advanced Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

The Bureau of Identification (BOI) is a Restricted Access facility located at 260 North Chicago Street, Joliet, Illinois, and appointments are required to enter the facility. How can I be fingerprinted for employment, licensing, or immigration?

I want to check on the status of my fingerprint or name search submission, how can I do this?

You can check on the status of your fingerprint or name search submission by emailing your inquiry to ISP.BOI.Customer.Support@illinois.gov.

How can I find the response to the name-based search that I submitted using CHIRP?

To get your response after you submit a name-based search using CHIRP, follow the CHIRP icon located in “Quick Links” on the right side of the screen. Once in CHIRP, enter the TCN number to retrieve the response. The TCN number is the number that was giving to you when you initiated your name-based search.

How do I get a copy of my criminal history? How do I challenge my criminal history?

To view and challenge your criminal history, visit a Live Scan vendor, complete an Access & Review, and get fingerprinted. Your results will be mailed to you. The last page of the Access and Review packet is the Record Challenge form, which can be used to challenge any findings on your record. Completed forms can be mailed to the Bureau of Identification at 260 North Chicago Street, Joliet, Illinois or dropped off in the main entrance vestibule at the above address. How do I expunge or seal my records?

How do I submit a FOIA request?

Visit https://isp.illinois.gov click on the FOIA icon to the right of the screen and follow the directions. For additional information, please email ISP.FOIA.Officer@illnois.gov. If you completed FOIA request documents please mail the forms to: Illinois State Police, Freedom of Information Officer, 801 South 7th Street, Suite 1000-S, Springfield, Illinois 62703.

How do I drop off a court ordered DNA sample?

You may reach out to the ISP Joliet Forensics Lab at 815-740-3542. The ISP Joliet Forensics Lab is located at 515 Woodruff Street, Joliet, Illinois.

How do I complete a crash report or request an Illinois State Police Field Report/Incident Report?

Please visit https://isp.illinois.gov/CrashReports to complete a crash report online or check for a physical location to meet with a Trooper. A Field Report/Incident Report can be requested through a FOIA request.

I’m a Live Scan vendor. How do I submit a payment?

I need my response notarized. How should I proceed?

If you received a response that needs to be notarized, please email your request to ISP.BOI.Customer.Support@illinois.gov. and provide the Transaction Control Number (TCN). A notarized copy will be mailed to you.
