ISP AGENTS INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE 600 BLOCK 3RD Street VENICE, IL

  

 

COLLINSVILLE - Illinois State Police (ISP) Investigations is investigating a homicide which occurred in the 600 block of 3rd Street in Venice, IL at approximately 11:40 p.m., on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

Due to a request from the Venice Police Department (VPD) numerous area law enforcement agencies, including ISP District 11 Troopers, responded to a report of a disturbance and shots fired at a large party in the 600 block of 3rd Street. VPD was also simultaneously getting reports of several subjects being down due to the gunfire. Upon arrival, two subjects were located who had been shot and required medical attention. Officers immediately began life-saving measures before both victims were transported from the scene to area hospitals. However, one of the victims, JAYLON McKENZIE (14 years of age) of Belleville, succumbed to his injuries and died a short time after arriving at the hospital. The other victim a 15-year-old female remains in critical condition due to her injuries sustained during this incident.

At the request of the VPD, Illinois State Police Investigations out of Collinsville is assisting in the homicide investigation of McKENZIE and the shooting of the female juvenile victim. No other individuals, at this time, are known to have been injured as a result of this incident.

The incident remains under investigation. No other information is being released at this time.
