2018 I-UCR Program Updates

A National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) resource page has been developed and posted to the web page to assist agencies in the transition to NIBRS. Some resources have been providing directly from the FBI, while others have been developed during the I-UCR Program’s NIBRS implementation planning phase. The resource page will include monthly updates on NIBRS transition activities when there is viable information to share. The resource page can be accessed by clicking on the NIBRS logo located in the upper right hand corner of the web page.

The annual collection of law enforcement employee information related to the number of employees within each agency will begin on November 1, 2018. Data will be collected utilizing the on-line electronic reporting tool. On November 1, 2018, an additional tab labeled Police Employee was made available in the reporting tool until close of business December 16, 2018. Paper reporting agencies will receive a mailing containing a form to complete and return for entry. Data submitted by the deadline date will be included in Crime in Illinois 2018, and forwarded to the FBI. The reporting guidelines can be accessed by clicking on the link below. Crime in Illinois 2016 is available for review. The statistics published reflect data as of July 6, 2017. The statistics published in the Federal UCR’s publication, Crime in the United States 2016, reflect data as of April 24, 2017. The difference in publication dates may create discrepancies between the statistics presented in each publication. The 2016 publication can be accessed by clicking on the Crime in Illinois 2016 cover to the right. The 2016 report and specific data bases will be added to the Annual Reports and Databases Section at the bottom of the web page in the near future.

The verification process for 2017 Index Crime statistics to be published in Crime in Illinois 2017 will begin on March 12, 2018, and conclude on April 10, 2018. The reporting tool will again be used to verify statistics. ONLY agencies that have been approved to submit paper reporting forms for the 2017 reporting year will receive verification reports and instructions via the mail. Refer to the attachment below for additional information regarding the electronic verification process and the FBI’s publication deadline date.
