Physical Fitness Training

As required for the performance of duties, physical fitness is a key element in continual training for the Illinois State Police. During the 29-week Academy training, Illinois State Police Cadets are required to participate in three Physical Fitness Inventory Tests (PFIT), Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER), and complete active physical training three to five times each week. Sworn employees are required on an annual basis to participate to ensure fitness for duty status.

Training Requirements:

  • Sworn Personnel - Annual Physical Fitness Inventory Test (PFIT)
  • Cadets - 75+ hours of physical training and 3 PFIT
  • Recruits - 40+ hours of physical training, and 3 POWER assessments
