SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Leo P. Schmitz announces the official dedication of the Illinois State Police Memorial Park. The dedication occurred on October 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in Springfield, Illinois. Governor Bruce Rauner, Director Schmitz, and many other distinguished guests joined retired ISP First Deputy Director Jack S. Garcia as the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation held the Memorial Park dedication ceremony.

Red Bud Pharmacy Owner and Pharmacist Pleads Guilty to Healthcare Fraud

Steven P. Gibson, 29, pharmacist and owner of Gibson’s Discount Drugs in Red Bud, Illinois, pled guilty in federal court today to charges that he engaged in a scheme to defraud health care benefit programs by submitting false claims for fraudulent prescription medications to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies that were not authorized by a physician, nurse practitioner, or a physician’s assistant as required. Sentencing is set for November 27, 2018. Gibson will face up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release on each of the two counts to which he pled guilty.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE CADET CLASS 127 RECEIVES OATH OF AN OFFICER

Springfield – Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Leo P. Schmitz commissioned 81 Troopers this morning during the Cadet Class 127 graduation ceremony at Hope Church in Springfield, Illinois. The new Troopers will report to ISP patrol districts throughout the state on Monday, August 13, 2018. Governor Bruce Rauner, Director Schmitz, and ISP command staff welcomed the new Troopers after delivering the Oath of an Officer before family and friends.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE TROOPER COMMENDED FOR WORK DURING JOINT TASK FORCE INVESTIGATION

Effingham, IL – In May, Illinois State Police (ISP) District 12 Trooper, Nathan Schnarre, was commended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for his work in a case involving violent gang members and the distribution of heroin and weapons trafficking in six states. The FBI noted Trooper Schnarre’s “investigative prowess and relentless investigative techniques” which uncovered a hidden compartment during a traffic stop. The investigation led to the discovery of large amounts of heroin, the recovery of firearms, half of which were military grade assault rifles. Trooper Schnarre’s persistence provided evidence which led to the arrest of six individuals, with more federal charges pending. “This is a great example of the dedication to public safety shared by our District 12 Troopers”, said District 12 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt. Well done, Trooper Schnarre!

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) today announced a special enforcement detail dedicated in honor of fallen Trooper James Sauter, who was killed in the line of duty on March 28, 2013, when his ISP squad was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer on I-294 southbound at Willow Road. The announcement marks the fifth consecutive year of this detail held in honor of his memory, a legacy of courage, honor, and duty.
