DOWNERS GROVE, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Leo P. Schmitz regretfully announces the on duty death of ISP District 15 (Downers Grove) Lieutenant Rich Kozik.

Yesterday, February 6, 2018, at approximately 11:01 a.m., Lieutenant Rich Kozik #4929, Cadet Class 96, suffered a medical emergency resulting in him being transferred to a hospital to undergo further medical treatment.  Lieutenant Kozik later died at the hospital.

“Rich was not only a great leader, but a personal friend. Rich was a dedicated 19-year veteran who was respected and revered by many both inside and outside our Department,” said ISP Director Leo P. Schmitz.  “Rich will be remembered for his dedication to the Illinois State Police and living up to our motto; integrity, service and pride.”

Lieutenant Kozik was the District 15 Special Operations Lieutenant overseeing the Motorcycle Unit, Truck Enforcement Unit, and the Criminal Patrol Team.

Lieutenant Kozik’s visitation and funeral arrangements are pending.
