ILLINOIS STATE POLICE BATTLES FIREARMS BACKLOG

The Firearms Owner’s Identification card was first enacted by the Illinois legislature 52 years ago. Since that time, the Illinois State Police Firearms Services Bureau has been tasked with the administration of the FOID card, the concealed carry license (CCL), the Firearms Transfer Inquiry Program (FTIP), gun dealer licensing, appeals, background correlations, investigative support, enforcement and customer service for the firearms safety laws of Illinois.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ANNOUNCES 48% REDUCTION IN DNA/BIOLOGY BACKLOG SINCE MARCH 2019

Springfield, IL – Governor JB Pritzker and Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Brendan F. Kelly announced today the ISP Division of Forensic Services (DFS) achieved a 48% overall reduction in Biology/DNA pending assignments, commonly known as “the DNA backlog.” On March 1, 2019, the backlog consisted of 9,289 pending assignments. As of Nov. 30, 2020, forensic scientists worked the number of pending assignments down to 4,857.

PRITZKER ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCES REDUCTION IN STATE FORENSIC BACKLOG

Springfield, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Brendan F. Kelly announced today the State has achieved a 33% overall reduction in the Biology/DNA forensic backlog. To further the backlog reduction, Governor JB Pritzker formed a Forensic Science Task Force in 2019 to make recommendations that address the challenges of forensic services. The task force is composed of 15 representatives from law enforcement, the defense bar, prosecutors, advocacy groups and more.
