50 ILCS 727/1, Police and Community Relations Improvement Act: State law that establishes protocols and procedures related to the investigation of all instances where a police-citizen interaction results in death. Additionally, it establishes that each law enforcement agency must have a written policy regarding the investigation of officer-involved deaths involving a law enforcement officer employed by that law enforcement agency.
ISP Policy OPS-002 Weapons Discharge: Governs how the Illinois State Police will investigate each occurrence of the use of deadly force and all weapons discharge incidents in which Department weapons or Department employees and/or indemnified persons are involved.
ISP Policy OPS-042 Investigative Responsibility: Governs the Illinois State Police procedures adopted to ensure the effective and efficient detection, apprehension, and prosecution of those persons who violate criminal laws.
ISP Policy OPS-089 Officer Involved Death: Governs how the Illinois State Police comply with existing laws and policies regarding the investigations of officer involved deaths that are intentional or unintentional.
ISP Policy OPS-090 Officer-Involved Investigations Dashboard: Governs the transparency of information provided to the public via the Officer-Involved Investigations Dashboards, which track and display information regarding ISP investigations of officer-involved deaths (OID), officer-involved shootings (OIS), and allegations of bias-based policing.
ISP Policy ADM-015 Media Guidelines: Governs the Illinois State Police efforts to foster a relationship of mutual trust between the Department and news media agencies. The Illinois State Police will cooperate impartially to provide factual information relating to matters within the Department's jurisdiction. This will be completed through the use of designated personnel and using established guidelines, in the interest of the public's right to know.
