Illinois State Police Announce Charges in Personal Injury Crash Involving an Illinois State Trooper

Magana Leonel Charged with Driving Under the Influence

Kendall County – Illinois State Police (ISP) officials announced charges stemming from the crash that resulted in a line-of-duty injury to Trooper Chad Martinez who is assigned to ISP District 5 in Lockport.

On April 12, 2015, at approximately 2:50 a.m. Trooper Martinez was traveling westbound on Madison Street in Oswego.  As he entered the intersection of Jackson Street a southbound Chrysler Pacifica on Jackson Street failed to stop at the stop sign and struck Trooper Martinez’s squad car.  The Chrysler was driven by Magana Leonel, 27, of Aurora, Illinois.  

“On behalf of the men and women of the Illinois State Police, I offer our support for a prompt and complete recovery for Trooper Martinez.  I am thankful he survived this preventable and unfortunate crash,” said Director Leo Schmitz.

Leonel was subsequently charged with Driving Under the Influence.  Leonel posted bond at Oswego Police Department and was issued a court date.

 

The public is reminded that all arrested persons are merely accused of the charges against them and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
