Improper Lane Usage Shortens Drug Smuggler’s Itinerary 

HIGHLAND, IL – An Illinois State Police (ISP) District 11 trooper patrolling Interstate 70 east of Highland discovered 155 pounds of cannabis during a routine traffic stop.

On Monday, January 26, 2015, at 4:01 p.m., an ISP trooper initiated a traffic stop on a black 2014 Chrysler for improper lane usage. The driver (sole occupant) of the vehicle appeared to be extremely nervous and unsure of her exact destination. The driver granted verbal consent to a search of the interior of the vehicle. Two large duffel bags and a plastic trash bag were located. Inside one of the two zippered duffel bags were wrapped packages containing approximately 155 pounds of cannabis.

The driver, Isiadra Jasso, 41, of El Paso, TX, was charged with possession of cannabis a Class 1 Felony, Cannabis Trafficking a Class X Felony, and cited for improper lane usage. Jasso was transported to the Madison County jail where she was incarcerated on a $200,000 bond.

“Drug smugglers trafficking illicit drugs affect young lives and cost tax payers millions every year,” said ISP District 11 Captain Joseph Kollins. “This is a great example of good police work as a result of solid training and experience. I am proud of the commitment shown by our troopers in keeping Illinois roadways safe,” added Kollins.
