20 ILCS 2605/2605-50, Department of State Police

Division of Internal Investigation. The Division of Internal Investigation shall initiate internal departmental investigations and, at the direction of the Governor, investigate complaints and initiate investigations of official misconduct by State officers and State employees under the jurisdiction of the Governor. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law, the Division shall serve as the investigative body for the Illinois State Police for purposes of compliance with the provisions of Sections 12.6 and 12.7 of this Act.

ISP Policy OPS-002 Weapons Discharge: Governs how the Illinois State Police will investigate each occurrence of the use of deadly force and all weapons discharge in which Department weapons or Department employees and/or indemnified persons are involved.

ISP Policy OPS-042 Investigative Responsibility: Governs the Illinois State Police procedures adopted to ensure the effective and efficient detection, apprehension, and prosecution of those persons who violate criminal laws.

ISP Policy OPS-089 Officer Involved Death: Governs how the Illinois State Police comply with existing laws and policies regarding the investigations of officer involved deaths that are intentional or unintentional.

ISP Policy ADM-015 Media Guidelines: Governs the Illinois State Police efforts to foster a relationship of mutual trust between the Department and news media agencies. The Illinois State Police (ISP) will cooperate impartially to provide factual information relating to matters within the Department's jurisdiction. This will be completed through the use of designated personnel, using established guidelines, in the interest of the public's right to know.
