*The Illinois Sexual Assault Evidence Submission Act, which was passed by the Illinois General Assembly and went into effect September 1, 2010, requires the completion of sexual assault forensic analyses within 180 days if the ISP had “sufficient resources.” On March 31, 2022, the number of pending sexual assault forensic assignments older than 180 days reached zero, marking the first time since the Act passed that the State of Illinois was able to completely comply with this statute. As of May 1, 2022 the sexual assault evidence backlog as defined by the Sexual Assault Evidence Submission Act has been reduced by 99.9%.
