District 7 is located in Northwestern Illinois. The District’s population demographics vary from densely-populated urban metropolitan areas to sparsely-populated rural agricultural areas. The Quad Cities is the third largest population center in the state, outside of Chicago. District 7 is comprised of four counties: Rock Island, Henry, Mercer, and Knox, which encompass approximately 3,500 square miles. District 7 has primary patrol responsibility on Interstates 80, 74, 88 and 280, which total 124 miles, as well as all State and U.S. Highways within the four counties, which account for 625 miles of roadway. Rock Island County is the District’s most populated county (147,546) and its’ second-most populated is Knox County (52,919). The total permanent population for the District is estimated at 267,385, with consideration of more than 165,000 people residing in Scott County Iowa. District 7 has five colleges/universities, which have total enrollments exceeding 13,000 annually. Visitors to the region exceed 1.1 million people annually.
